General Comments on Life as I Know It:

Has this not been the longest cold spell Texas has ever known?
(Snow flurries on a regular basis no less!)

Though I have not checked, I'm sure sales for hand sanitizer are skyrocketing because of all the sick people.
(Seriously! Almost everyone I know has been sick! Eat that vitamin C like candy, y'all!)

Isn't learning a wonderful thing? I'm so glad the Lord made us capable of expanding the barbed wire fences of our braines so that we can hold more, understand more, and use it more!
(Needless to say, I'm loving college and contemplating summer courses!)

Chris Tomlin Concert

The Chris Tomlin (with Matt Redman and Louis Giglio) concert was awesome. The theme was: How Great Is Our God, which struck me as they got into it because that is something I have been pondering this last week. God's omnipotence, the fact that He's so much BIGGER than us. When we think our problems are too big for Him, that they have shoved us out of His reach, we are forgetting just how great He is.

It was also incredible to join with thousands of worshippers to lift of our Lord. The music and lights were great, but I loved it when they let it die down only to the voices of the people not on stage. The unity and strength there was beautiful. Wow, I've got to remember who God is: my Deliverer, my Savior, the One whose thoughts are not my own.

24

Okay, so over Christmas Break I caught up on Season 5 of 24 with Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland). Dad, Mom, Whit and I were scrambling to get ready to sit down and watch the 2 hour season premiere. 4 minutes before it starts our electricity goes out!!! We waited breathlessly for it to come back on-- which it did but only for 11 seconds. Thankfully we had a friend close by who was watching it, so we loaded up and crashed their party. So all's well that ends well, but it was scary beginning.

I enjoy watching 24 for the suspense and the fact that Jack Bauer will save the day when all is said and done. He's the type of character who seems to be honest and a lover of truth and justice. (However, I do believe he has issues with submitting to authority which he needs to work through.) I also am impressed with the producer's of 24 (or the writers or whoever is responsible) for holding a deep respect for the United States and the office of President. That seems to be the one line they will not cross, and I am grateful.

Nothing beats a peanut-butter-and-honey sandwhich at midnight...

Someone please remind me to buy some chocolate covered peanuts for "study food." Also please remind me to eat my peppermint Bob Sticks while studying for finals. Thank you.

el otoƱo (autumn)

The air has finally begun to blow a bit cooler. It's October. Fall is here. It's time for sweaters and closed-toed shoes. When I stepped outside the other day, I had a near-uncontrollable urge to knock on someone's door, hand them a flyer, and ask them to vote for suchandsuch candidate. I'm not kidding! I didn't realize what a lasting impact campaiging in the 2002 and 2004 elections would have on me, but apparently in my subconscience autumn has become synonimous with campaigning. Ahh, there are lots of fun memories. I learned alot on those trips too.

Fall is a particularly "special" season for me. Not just because of campaigning, but there are several other traditions associated with fall that date back to my early, early childhood. One is the Hallelujah Party held at Pastor Barton's on October 31st. That day is special for no other reason but the chili dogs, bon fire, hay ride, and marshmellow toasting. Ah-hem, actually there is another reason that it is special. My eldest sister's birthday falls on that day, which brings me to another autumn tradition. Birthdays. Birthdays are synonimous with fall in my book because, well...Callie's birthday and my birthday fall in this season (no pun intended). They are actually two days apart. My day is November 2. So, we always celebrate them together. I couldn't even imagine having a birthday if I didn't get to celebrate with Cal! And of course Thanksgiving is another fall tradition. It's kind of the closing celebration of autumn. By then we have already had campaigning, birthdays, and Hallelujah Parties.

I think I enjoy fall because it seems to have so many different things to look forward to. In winter all you think about is Christmas. In spring all you think about is finishing school. In summer all you think about is starting school. But fall (el otono) has several high points. And I love it!
